Presbyterian Church of the Master is blessed to have incredibly energetic and enthusiastic Deacons to come along side and provide caring support for you and your family. Deacons are men and women who have been elected by the congregation and ordained for the purpose of ministering with members with difficulties and stress. PCOM’s Board of Deacons are organized into a number of ministry Care Teams designed to enhance care throughout the congregation and community. The Care Teams are as follows:

Care Teams
Hospital Care Team
This Care Team consists of trained Deacons and church members who are willing to call on those who are hospitalized or recovering in nursing homes and rehabilitation centers.
Home Care Team
This Care Team has the privilege of visiting and caring for those who are unable to attend church such as the home-bound, for those who have been discharged from hospitals, are ill at home or who have lost loved ones. Both Deacons and trained church members make up this care team.
Emergency Care Team
In the event of a short-term need such as a recent hospitalization, a new baby, accident, illness, or death…this care team provides emergency meals, shopping (groceries, pharmacy), transportation (medical appointments) or sitting with a child or an adult. There are over 100 members of the congregation who have expressed a willingness to serve on this Care Team as needed.
New Members Care Team
This Care Team is responsible for hosting and welcoming new members on the evening they come before Session. They also acquaint new members with the various Deacon ministries and occasionally “check-in” on them to make sure they are doing well and becoming involved in church life.
Retirement Communities Care Team
This Care Team organizes fellowship opportunities such as gatherings, day trips, etc… and promotes mutual caring and connectedness with people living in retirement areas such as Laguna Woods Village, Casta del Sol, and Palmia.
Prayer Care Team
This Care Team provides follow-up for people on the church prayer list, to ascertain whether or not there are additional care needs that the Deacons may meet, and to determine if they still wish to be on the list.
Courtyard Care Team
A Deacon is present every Sunday morning at the gazebo to respond to any care needs identified from the congregation. Specific care requests are then passed on to the appropriate Deacon Care Team for follow-through.
Communion Care Team
This Care Team coordinates and implements the serving of communion to the home-bound and hospitalized.
If you, or someone you know needs deacon care, or if you’d like to participate on a deacon care team, please contact the Deacon Moderator Helga Hoffmann (949) 870-8068.
